I began my interpreting career in the Channel Islands in 2005 and now have over 20 years of experience in professional interpreting and translation sector. Currently based in Kingston upon Hull, I work with UKBA, law courts, the police, HMRC, the NHS, solicitors, and the city councils of Leeds, Derby, and Hull. I have been providing my interpreting and translation services at business meetings, conferences, and seminars in the Channel Islands, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Latvia.
Alongside my interpreting and translation work, I have also contributed to the training and development of new interpreters and translators. I have provided Latvian language tuition and exam preparation for trainee interpreters and have worked as a language assessor for the International School of Linguists (ISL) and DPSI Online, assessing candidates’ language and interpreting and sight translation skills. As part of my assessor role, I have also prepared reports and feedback on candidates’ examination performance.
Having successfully earned a BA (Hons) from the Latvian Academy of Culture, I began my career in journalism in Riga. This experience taught me to listen carefully, convey information clearly, and adapt content accurately. As part of my routine work, I translated and adapted foreign articles for various magazines. I also gained experience working briefly as a television editor.
I come from a bilingual family and studied Russian language and literature at school in Latvia, which has contributed to my fluency in the language. I also studied French language at the Latvian Academy of Culture (LKA) and continued my French studies at the University of Hull. My passion for languages and creative expression also extends to writing. In 2025 I completed a Diploma in Creative Writing at Literary Academy in Latvia, further developing my use of language and written communication.
As part of my ongoing professional development, I also gained a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have been working as a counsellor since 2022. This training has further strengthened my ability to communicate with sensitivity, empathy and cultural awareness, while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and professional boundaries — qualities that are particularly valuable when working in sensitive interpreting and translation settings. I remain committed to continuous professional development (CPD), continually expanding my knowledge and skills to maintain high professional standards in my interpreting and translation work.
